CONGRATULATIONS: My congratulations to An Clannad's charming vocalist Maire on her recent marriage. She now becomes 7 Mrs. O'Farrell and hubby is a member of Brush Shields backing band Skid Row. May we add that all their troubles be "little ones". Also congratulations to An Clannad as their album 'Magical Ring' has spent twenty weeks in the British charts. They will be back in the headlines by Christmas when the new 'Robin Hood' television series will be screened, and An Clannad provide the theme song. May it be as successful as dear old 'Harry's Game' was for the inter-related group. KAJA WITHOUT THE GOOGOO: I can't say that Kajagoogoo was one of my favourite groups, but as a music critic was surprised at the news that lead singer Limahl has decided to quit the group to try a solo career. Meanwhile the group Kajagoogoo will carry on as a four piece. ·· And for their fans a new book entitled 'Kajagoogoo The Official Lyric Book' which sells at around £3.20p from Omnibus. Who will survive-the group or Limahl as a solo artist? Only time will tell! WHERE ARE YOU NOW: Some weeks back Daniel O'Donnell quit Margo's Band and launched his own band. The launching was in Ostah na Rosann and was well attended. But it seems the dates for the band are indeed few and far between to say the least. Daniel say·s that he can't accept bookings as other members of his band are working on the lounge circuit. The lad has a good debut single 'Stand Beside Me' and 'Donegal Shore' on release and in face made the near misses in the RTE Radio 2 Keep It Country Charts. So please Daniel, get a band of full time musicians and not the present set-up of only when the boys are free. ANOTHER 21st: The Early Beatles is the title of a new Granada TV documentary which will be screened in October to mark their 21st Anniversary of the groups TV appearance. In this one hour special will be film footage never screened before, including a film taken in the Cavern Club, Liverpool in '62. The first gentleman to interview the :fab four on TV was our own Gay. Byrne while he worked for G1'anada TV in Manchester . The Fab Four offered Gay a management deal but he refused. POP IN BRIEF: It now takes £2,000 to record a single in Ireland. Little wonder that few bands or groups are keen to gamble • •• Paul Young is presenterl wi t •• a Silver Disc for his chart-topper 'Wherever _! Lay My Hat' ••• A Buy One and Get One Free' offer from K-tel featuring the Cream of Irish Country Artists on a two album set ••• Boy George of Culture Club says his parents are Irish, his real name is George O'Dowd ••• UK's Eurovision trio Sweet Dreams have dropped the Sweet tag, and are promoting thoir new single '17 Electric' as Dreams ••• The fourth edition of The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles' just published. le MAESTRO. ;, ..-< +> c <1l () <1l ~ tll) c ..... .<: Ul ..... ... <1l e ..... +> "' ... 0 <1l ..-< "' .<: l "' '0 "' .<: ..-< <1l e ~ "' (.) ... ... ~ <1l .s:: +> ... 0 <1l c 0 ~ 0 ... +> Ul C'· <1l +> ~ Ul <1l ..... +> e c <1l ..... .s:: ..-< () "' <1l ..... .s:: () +> <1l 0. e Ul 0 "' ~ ... My mother would come runnin' when she'd see us in the bay, An' "YP. shouldn't take the childer in the curragh," she would say, "Sure its awful aisy to upset". nod his head, But he would Which was just the way he 'd tell r1ar that she needn't be afraid. An' then he'd paddle out a bit , an' r ightly I can mind The way he •d sing wee bits o' tune·;, a:o' forget us two behind, Till Johnny'd start the pushin ', or it maybe might be me, An 1 "Stop it now," he'd shout, "or else ye' ll go to Inishfree". Now Inishfree's an island that is low ar' very small, There's not a house upon it nor a creature there at all, An' there mightn't be much harm in it if one should go to seek, But John an' I were fear'd of it since ever we could speak. An' all because my father in the laughin' way he had, Would say it was the place for little childer that were bad; We'd think there might be somethin' there that maybe wasn't right, "'-- ·· · For ----~- we'd hear loud voices callin' when the wind blew high at night. Daniel Bosco O'Donnell whose new record "Stand Beside Me"/"Donegal Shore" on the Rosses Label is selling very well. Daniel is of course Margo's brother. -.==.-:.~- ~ Le Elizabeth Shane.
