GLENTIES I Large crowds came from far and near to the Patrick McGill Festival 1983. The young poets following in the footsteps of that great man received their prizes at the Comprehensive School, Glenties, on Saturday, September 3. A Summer School was hel.d in the school during the Festival under the direction of Dr. J. Mullholland of R.T.E. 4 DUNGLOE Dungloe District Hospital has seen more visitors, it .,., ~ is reckoned, during the past two weeks than during ~ g; 1 the last 25 years. This great influx of visitors ~ <TI from all parts of the county and beyond had nothing ,~to do with the recent medical conference nor with b' I the fact that people are coming in their hundreds ~ ,S (with cameras) to see the "high-rise" bridge being ~·~ built at the hospital entrance. The reason, in A Horticultural Show was held In the Market Hall, Glenties, on September 10. It attracted many entries. A band competition was held on Sunday September, 11~ · with stiff competition as bands from all over the county competed. On the 12th the annual Harvest Fair was held, when the crowds filled the streets and everyone enjoyed the entertainment, going home happy but light in the pocket. ~ ~ 1 fact is because the former Rosses Mayor, ~ ~ · Michael Og O'Hanlon occupies a bed and a ward which :::; ~ contains more get-well cards than Eason 1 s Stationary ·~ ~ Department. Michael, who unfortunately sustained ~ ~ a slight injury to his knee is now making 1 ~ satisfactory progress and hopefully will, by the time o b' we go to press, be returned home. While hospitalised g ~ his principal duties are being attended to by his Tidy Town Everyone in the area was disappointed when they heard that Glenties was not picked for the top prize but still got very high marks, getting the county award. The townspeople had put great effort into the project this year. Welcome Through this paper the people of the area and the pupils of the school would like to welcome Fr. Cannon to St. Calumba's School, Glenties. 'g colleague Jim Og (0) Gallagher. ~ Rosses Glasgow Weekend ~ . While the numbers travelling from Glasgow fell short of the 1982 figure, this annual reunion held in Ostan na Rosann at the end of September is regarded by all as the most enjoyable weekend in recent years. The Saturday night function, which was in aid of the Church Building Fund was well attended and there was, as usual, tremendous interest in both the waltzing and Jiving Competitions. The results were: Waltzing: Mr• . and Mrs. Danny McConnell, Churchill. t5~~ 0' ~o~~rtr Association· Jiving: Josie Murray, Keadue and Helen McFadden Gweedore. "INISHOWEN WELCOMES THE 0 1 DOHERTY ASSOCIATION IN 1985 11 Members from the 0 1 Doherty Associations from throughout the world will assemble in Inishowen in mid-1985 for their first ever Grand Re-union. The O'Doherty Association was founded in 1978 in Attica, Michigan, by Mrs. Jeanne Kitchen-O'Dougherty and her brother Pat, in order to promote friendship and explore the heritage of the 0 1 Doherty tribe. Since then re-unions are held annually throughout America and Canada. Since deciding to hold the Grand Re-union, interest in the Association and its activities has grown in the Inishowen and Derry area. A branch has been formed in Buncrana and the working committee has begun the massive task behind this grand event in 1 85. Secretary of the Buncrana branch Helen Doherty, along with Paddy Doherty from Derry attended the North America 0 1 Doherty Gathering held in Barnsville, Ohio. Helen would be interested in receiving any information about the activities and achievements of the tribe down through the generations, which would prove an asset to their historical research. She would welcome pictures old and new, folklore, books with reference to the 0 1 Doherty family, or records of achievements or awards won b,y a member of the tribe. Such data should be sent to Helen at Glebe Road, Desertegney, Buncrana. Membership to the Association is open to all those with an O'Doherty somewhere in their family tree. The annual subscription is £5, and for each member enrolled will receive a membership card, and a family tree scroll, which when computerized will hopefully show family links. Members will also be kept informed of all activities taking place worldwide. O'DOHERTY ASSOCIATION HEADQUARTERS. Music by La Scala. During the course of the evening there was a raffle, the proceeds of which went to Sister Mary Sweeney's Mission in Africa. Sunday Night Ostan na Rosann was the scene for the R./G.
