LOCH AN IUIR 4 CLOICH CHEANN FHAOLA Since it appears that "Bacach" has given up the ghost (Whatever happened to his very poor effort at writing Loughanure notes) I think that it is only fair that someone should represent that "constituency". I will do my best to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, which reminds me of the judge who went to the dentist and asked him to take out the tooth, the whole tooth and nothing but the tooth! · Is docha nach mbeidh mo chuid Gaeilge chomh ifofa le Gaeilge "an Bhacaigh" ach is cuma liom. Is beag { Loch an IGir anois a dthig leis no lei meas-magaidh a / thabhairt ar Ghaeilge duine ar bith. Ta Gaeilge/ Loch an IGir anois faoi fh~d a mhalaidh Hiii'da{ Shabha, i mBe'al na Cruite, ar an Chruit, a~us faoi Shiabai-i gaineamh i reilig na Maolacha. Nil fa'gtha anois, faraor, ach Be'arla briste na Gaeltachta. However there is no point in lamenting about the past. This "town" of ours has come on lately. We have "Zebra" markings at the "lazy corner", the phone box wasn't broken for one whole week, eggs are for throwing around at night, shares have again come up in the "mining" areas , and the sign-posts at the crossroads are pointi?ig-in the right direction for three weeks in a row. Now •. everyone must agree that all these things point to a "repentant people". Ta suil agam gur mar sin a bheas ach ta me cinnte nuair a bhuailfidh an droch rud aris go mbeidh bearaid ar iarraidh. Here's hoping for the best. 3 c 0 :" Wasn't that a grand job Connie and the boys did on the alley. This time, mind you, it stood a force 10 and not a block moved. Is furast a aithne ce a bhfuil a "thrade" aige. T hope Willie can get it finished soon. It was a big ur rtaking. We all talked about it for years, but talk is ieap and will not build bricks. Action is the word, and that's what we got. I never heard of any voluntary worl' offered on the building of the alley (which will benefit Loughanure). We will all wait for the official opening, to get in the limelight. But there is only one man worthy of the limelight and credit for rebuilding the alley, and that is Willie McGeehan. I notice that public buildings (i.e. schools) in this "baile" are not helping in Tidy Town Competition marks. Loughanure rates high in its class, but I would imagine that this is due to the efforts of private householders. A coat of snowcem or lime/cement and a few tins of paint w~uld work wonders on public buildings. So!! Failte, to the Trimble family on coming to Loughanure. Mary, of course, was born in Ailt-an-Ein, and returns to her townland. Charley, a native of Leitir, is well known and respected in LOughanure. Saol fada daoibh uilig i Loch an I~ir. Any word of the Loughanure band now?!! Whatever happened to such a promising band? Why did the people of Loughanure lose interest? There was a lot of work put into it by a few, and now the whole thing falls flat. What about the gear? Is it being cared for? If not, why not? The money to set up the band was hard earned, collected by dedicated people who worked day and night to bring the band to 4th overall in Ulster. The people of Loughanure should not let the band disappear from the scene. Now is the hour!! Did you know you can travel from Dungloe to Loughanure faster than you can go from Loughanure to Dungloe. Just look at the signposts. It says 8M in Dungloe, to Loughanure, and it says 9Y,M in Loughanure, to Dungloe. Funny!! Was the lY,M lost in the pot-holes? The unislim classes a going a bomb in the tech. They are fairly shedding the pounds (not punts now!) in there. Who ever thought that the tech would turn out to be a "reducing centre" where once cookery classes actually helped people to put on weight! by learning how to make sweet dishes. Ach bheul! n{ thuigeann an sathach an seang agus ma thuigeann chan in-am. We will all run in the Dublin City Marathon next year, ma bhionn muid beo. < Ill ..... ;r Ill 0.
